Project Description
Client: Johnstown Wastewater Treatment Plant
Project: Water Quality Improvements, Johnstown, CO
Johnstown’s wastewater treatment facility consisted of a three-lagoon system which was unable to meet the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s (CDPHE) required nitrification regulations during cold, winter months. As a solution, TST Infrastructure’s team provided design and construction phase engineering services for a 1.5 million gallons per day (1.5 MGD) Moving Bed Bio-Reactor (MBBR) system that included an aeration tank, aeration system, blower building, blower equipment, and yard piping. The MBBR system was designed to provide nitrification at temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius. The facility was the first application of MBBR technology for advanced treatment of lagoon effluent in Colorado. Application of the innovative MBBR technology enabled the facility to achieve compliance with effluent limits and improved the quality of the receiving waters.
